CYCLE MESSENGER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
PANAJACHEL, GUATEMALA - SEPTEMBER 3RD TO 13TH, 2010

Toronto – The CYCLE MESSENGER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (CMWC), will take place in Panajachel, Guatemala from September 3rd to 13th, 2010.

Now entering its 18th incarnation, the CYCLE MESSENGER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS is an annual event which pits speed and endurance against experienced messenger skill.  It is also a celebration of messenger’s lifestyle, culture, and history.

The CMWC has a long tradition of unique events formatted to actively represent the Bicycle Messenger Industry.  The main race is a simulation of a real workday with deliveries and pick-ups organized in a mock city core where routing and decision making becomes as important as speed and performance.

First held in 1993, messengers have been making the annual pilgrimage to some of the worlds major metropolis’ who’ve played past CMWC hosts including:  Berlin; London; Toronto; San Francisco; Barcelona; Washington D.C.; Zurich; Budapest; Copenhagen; New York; Sydney; Dublin; and most recently in Tokyo last year.

Making its first stop in Central America, one of the goals for this year’s CMWC organizing crew is to have Latin messengers meet, connect and participate with the rest of the world.  Bringing this prestigious event to Panajachel, Guatemala has excited both the global Messenger Community and the Guatemalan government. “The municipality of Panajachel will provide its full support, collaboration and assistance to the CMWC in its development.” pledges GERALDO HIGUEROS, Mayor of Panajachel.

The Organizers are making it a priority to give back to this impoverished community, which is still suffering the effects of 2005’s Hurricane Stan.  By employing local residents, plus the resulting tourism from the hundreds of visitors to Guatemala, the CMWC hopes to make a lasting social and financial impression in Panajachel, with event proceeds helping fund local community projects, including the rebuilding of the local soccer stadium.

Make plans now to attend the CYCLE MESSENGER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS and be in Panajachel, Guatemala from September 3rd to 13th, 2010 to catch all the festivities of this World Class sporting event.

 THE INFAMOUS FIGURE-EIGHT VELODROME RETURNS

LA OCHO
CYCLE MESSENGER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
PANAJACHEL, GUATEMALA - SEPTEMBER 3 TO 13, 2010

April 27, 2010, For Immediate Release:

Resurrecting the infamous figure-eight velodrome of cycling lore, LA OCHO will open the 18th annual CYCLE MESSENGER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (CMWC). With this addition, the CMWC is truly shaping up to be a world class event at an epic location.

LA OCHOdraws its inspiration from a hugely popular Canadian race series held in the late nineties called the Dunhill Alley-Cat Scramble, aka the Human Powered Rollercoaster. The HPR, as it was also known featured a wooden figure-eight track that attracted the fastest messengers from around the globe.

The anomaly, entitled LA OCHOwhich literally translates as The Eight,is proving to be an attention grabber.  Racers will compete in heats of four, jockeying through two days of preliminary racing to accumulate enough victories to lead themselves through to the final day of elimination rounds.  Each competitor will be striving to be crowned as the victor of this 200-meter long figure-eight track.

Reviving the exciting spirit of the original, while adding an old-school Guatemalan feel, the LA OCHO track will instead be constructed and run outdoors and on a foundation of dirt and clay rather than wood.  Featuring banked turns and a bridge crossing in the middle, the track promises to be fast and challenging for even the most skilled riders.

The Guatemalan Government and Municipal Government of Panajachel have pledged their full support in the effort to construct this ambitious course, inviting the global messenger community to build LA OCHOat their main outdoor stadium, Stadio Municipal de Panajachel.   “The courage to rebuild this lost messenger artifact is an impressive tribute to Bicycle Messengers around the world, and is sure to be a heroic display of racing!” proclaims CMWC President NADIR OLIVET.

Make plans now to attend the 18th Annual CYCLE MESSENGER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS and be in Panajachel, Guatemala from September 3rd to 13th, 2010 to catch all the festivities of this year’s adrenaline infused CMWC.

CYCLE MESSENGER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
“It’s more than an adventure, it’s a job!”
PANAJACHEL, GUATEMALA - SEPTEMBER 3 TO 13, 2010

May 25, 2010, for immediate release:

100 Days until the opening celebrations of the Cycle Messenger World Championships taking place this September in Panajachel Guatemala.

Already Messengers from around the world have begun to register and the list of Competing Cities is growing. The excitement is only beginning as the build up to this year’s Cycle Messenger World Championships, but the 100 day countdown has begun.

The annual Cycle Messenger World Championships has a long tradition as a yearly pilgrimage for Bike Messengers around the world. The sub culture of the messengers has often been highlighted and at times even eclipsed in pop culture, movies, TV, Fashion, Magazine, Sports, Commerce, Music and all have editorialized the immense pressures of their time sensitive vocation and helped to maximize their edge as a profession and a person. It’s more than an adventure, it’s a job!

Panajachel Guatemala will set the back drop for the intense sporting competitions set up to determine who our next World Champions will be. Competitions such as Bike Polo, Freestyle, Sprints, Skids, Cargo Race, a figure eight outdoor velodrome, and the toughest competition of all “The Main Event”.

The CMWC as it is known, is not only filled with all sorts of competitions, testing skills conducive to the job, it is also a heart warming tale of a true global community, with friends coming together to embrace in a courier family reunion, and budding new friendships for those brave competitors participating for the first time. All that are attending will tell you, there is nothing that compares, as far as pinnacle achievements for a professional bicycle messenger than to earn the title of World Champion. For many others it is about the adventures of just being part of it all.

We would like to share their stories with you, contact us and we will put you in touch with one of your local messengers, and help to add something very unique to your portfolio/ program/ or magazine. This event is being hosted and built by messengers for messengers and presented to the world in this format only once a year.
