Q: Where is Panajachel?
A: There are 2 Panajachel's in Guatemala. Google map Lago Atitlan, Guatemala, and you will see Panajachel on the north by
northeast corner of the lake. Follow route 1 East to CA1 to get to Guatemala City. On the way, detour if you wish onto Route 7 to Antigua and Route 10 from Antigua to rejoin CA1 to Guatemala City. Check out our fully interactive map on the Travel page.
Q: When is the CMWC?
A: The first contested CMWC events are on Friday night, September 10, but the first Open Forum is on Thursday the 9th. The last CMWC event will take place on Sunday, September 12, with the closing Open Forum scheduled for September 13. There are a number of pre-events and exhibition events scheduled in the days and weeks leading up to the CMWC. For more details go to the Schedule page.
Q: When do I need to fly into Guatemala City to arrive in Panajachel on time?
A: This depends on what time you arrive in Guatemala City. If your plane lands before 2 or 3 in the afternoon, you can catch a shuttle and make it to Pana that day. If you arrive later than 2pm, we would advise taking a shuttle to Antigua, spending the night there, and continuing your journey in the morning. We do not recommend staying in Guatemala City overnight, if for no other reason that it will be far more expensive to stay there. The same applies for getting home. Make sure you have enough time to make it to the airport. Again, stopping over in Antigua can be a good idea. See the Travel page for more details.
Q: How do I find housing/hotels in Panajachel? Is there any free housing?
A: See the CMWC Housing page for specific links to hotels in Panajachel. There is no free housing at CMWC 2010, and we highly, seriously, and sincerely, recommend booking before coming to Panajachel. If you have any questions, please contact our housing coordinator through the Contact page.
Q: Is there camping?
A: While there is no "CMWC" campsite, you can check out: http://www.atitlan.com/resnat.htm .
Q: I am already registered. Can I add La Ocho or Polo?
A: Yes, provided the events have not filled up, see the Exhibition Events page for details. For any change to your registration information, email registration@cmwcguatemala.com or use the Contact form and select the "Registration" category.
Q: I want to play polo but I don’t have a team. Can I still sign up for Polo?
A: Yes. Select yes for Polo, but leave the "Polo Team" slot on your registration form blank and we will help you join a team when you get here.
Q: I don’t want to be too far from the action. Where should I stay in Panajachel?
A: Panajachel is very small. It is more like a town. Any housing in Panajachel itself is within walking distance of anything else in the city.
Q: I am not racing. How do I volunteer or register just for the parties?
A: Simply select the "Guest" option on the registration form and check "Volunteer". Our volunteer coordinator will contact you to get more details.
Q: I am racing but I’d also like to volunteer at least a little.
A: Just check the Volunteer button on your registration form, and our volunteer coordinator will contact you and find a way to accommodate your schedule.

Q: Can I drink the tap water in Guatemala?
A: No. Drink bottled water that you purchased and opened yourself. Do not drink tap water at all. The locals drink it, but it will probably make most foreigners sick. Order "agua pura" in resturants, and request it when asking for coffee. Or better yet, stick to beer.

Q: Can I eat the food in Panajchel?
A: Yes. In fact, even the street food is safe for foreign stomachs. Guatemalan food is not that spicy, but use your judgment as you would in any eating situation back home or abroad.

A: No. Simply go to the Registration page and fill out the form.
Q. Can I register now and pay later?
A. No. Your registration is not valid unless you complete the entire process including payment.
Q. How to EDIT and make comments.
A. It is all about if your input format is filtered or full HTML. To read more about it click here
Input Format is the top one and Publishing Options is the bottom click on them and have a look at the options they offer. Choose Full HTML. You will then have WYSIWYG editing. (What You See Is What You Get)
These pics showing the "edit" window offer some useful tips on where to look.

You might notice (bottom image) the WORD looking button (top row, second from right). If you copy text from word in general, it is likely that you are also pasting all the background formatting. Try pasting into the prompt box from word. If crappy things happen. your only option is to copy from word, then paste into a basic text editor like "notepad" . Then copy the text (again) from notepad and then paste it into the edit window on this site (all Microsoft Word formatting should have gone to cyber graveyard.

If you still have problems, chances are your a MAC user and can't figure a basic .txt editor or you need to re-read this reference.
Q. Adding images and links to my post
Click the image or link button whilst in Full HTML mode (tool bar shown). This will enable to link to images already on the web or upload them from your computer or link to other pages. Be sure to look at the other tabs when you open the image or link interface.
Links to other places should be targeted to "_blank" targets. This will open a new window.
